Between structure and matter: reinventing the continuity of living spaces
This project involved the renovation and extension of a single-family home in Kraainem.
Our work is part of an overall approach to upgrading the existing building, in close dialogue with a palette of materials - wood, marble, steel and glass - that gives substance to the architectural vision of the project.
Our assignment involved both the structural conversion of the existing building and the design of the extension. Particular attention was paid to the design of a timber frame, the central element of the conversion.
The link between the existing structure and the new interventions was a major challenge, involving targeted adaptations and a detailed understanding of the overall functioning of the structure. This project illustrates the balance sought between technical precision and architectural intent, where the structure supports and reveals the appropriateness of the spaces.
