Revealing the structure: a visible weave between inside and outside, between old and new
In this project to refurbish a flat in Brussels, the structural elements remain visible and are brought to the fore, becoming the common thread running through our work. Columns and exposed metal beams form a diagonal rhythm that articulates the space, while at the same time asserting an elegant, uncluttered aesthetic.
The former sequence of three rooms has been transformed into a fluid two-bedroom space, centred on its openness to light and the garden. Large bay windows blur the boundaries between inside and outside, extending the living spaces outwards.
This project illustrates an approach in which the metal structure reveals itself and defines the character of the building. Load-bearing, legible and expressive, it creates a space that interconnects interior and exterior, existing and new elements.
