1324 – Renovation and construction of a development comprising three dwellings in Chastre

Continuity in a changing environment: working with what is already there

In the heart of Chastre, just a stone’s throw from the church, this project combines restoration, conversion and new-build construction within a single development. The aim was to create a cohesive whole that would blend naturally into the existing environment whilst supporting its future development.

In a context where every intervention contributes to the image of the village centre, the structural analysis supported the integration of structures from different eras with new buildings. The preservation of existing structures, their adaptation to contemporary uses and the integration of a new building required a holistic approach, paying particular attention to the interactions between the various components of the project.

This project illustrates the practice’s commitment to approaching each project as a balance between heritage and renewal. Behind the perceptible unity of the whole, the structural work enables buildings from different eras to come together to form a continuous architectural whole, firmly rooted in its surroundings.
